Jean-Baptiste de CABANES holds a business degree from the Institut Supérieur du Commerce de Paris (1979, management and finance). He has read law at Université Paris-2 (licence and maîtrise de droit des affaires, 1979 and 1980) and PARIS I (master's degree, droit international privé, 1981) as well as Cornell Law School (LL.M, 1982).
After ten years in industry (Pechiney, Petrofina, Elf Aquitaine), he was called to the Bar in 1995 and became a partner in the Paris firm of Barbé Carpentier Thibault Groener (1995-2002). Recruited to lead the Group legal departments of Crédit Lyonnais (2002-2005) and Caisses d'Epargne (2005-2006), he returned to private practice with US law firm Hogan & Hartson as of counsel (2006-2008) prior to joining the firm of Cornet Vincent Segurel as a Banking & Finance partner in the Paris office in October 2008.
His practice, both French and international, is mostly in banking and financial services; he has an extensive experience of listed companies' issues and complex company law issues.
His affiliations include a term as Advisor to Commerce Extérieur de la France [French foreign trade], (2012-2015), membership of the Legal Committee of the Association Nationale des Sociétés par Actions (ANSA), Member of the Scientific advisory Board of the Observatoire de l'Epargne Européenne and secretary-general and Director of Société d’Economie Politique. He is fully bilingual in English and handles work in German.
