Cornet Vincent Ségurel, which has been based in Lyon since 2016, is continuing to expand its office with the arrival of Benjamin Lafaye as a partner, accompanied by two associate lawyers. With these arrivals, the firm is setting up a Tax Law department to support SMIs, SMEs, family groups, managers and investors in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
Benjamin Lafaye was previously a lawyer at Fiducial Legal By Lamy (FLBL), which he joined in 2013 before becoming a partner in 2017 and co-heading the firm’s tax department. He began his career in Paris with Ernst & Young before working for several years with Tirard Naudin. A member of the IACF and a lecturer at the DJCE in Lyon, Benjamin Lafaye also regularly publishes legal articles in various journals and takes part in tax conferences.
The new partner joins Cornet Vincent Ségurel along with associate Enguerrand de Boissieu and student lawyer Thomas Maillot, who will be sworn in at the end of the year.
Benjamin Lafaye and his team mainly advise managers, investors and family groups, particularly on tax optimisation, reorganisation and the transfer of their assets. They also support them in tax audits and disputes, and more generally in their dealings with the tax authorities.
Benjamin Lafaye has also developed specific expertise in international taxation, particularly in Franco-American and Franco-Swiss issues.
This arrival will enable Cornet Vincent Ségurel to strengthen its service offering in Lyon and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, with expertise that complements that of the various teams already in place, particularly in corporate law, economic law, employment law, public law, insurance law and commercial litigation. It also strengthens the firm’s national tax expertise, with 10 partners and around 15 associates now working in this area.
“I’m delighted to be joining Cornet Vincent Ségurel’s Lyon office, a firm with a reputation and technical expertise of the highest order,” says Benjamin Lafaye. “I will also be working with partners with whom I have already worked and with whom I share strong human values”.
Luc-Marie Augagneur, a partner in the Lyon office, adds: “The arrival of Benjamin and his team means that we can take things a step further by offering a truly full service in Lyon with the integration of a tax department.
“This move strengthens our position as one of the leading business law firms in Lyon and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region,” adds Alexandre Cornet, partner and member of the Executive Committee. “With 30 lawyers, including 8 partners, and almost 40 staff in total, our office has continued to grow since it opened almost 7 years ago, and is now one of the top 10 large law firms by headcount in Lyon”.
